Nora Taylor, Alsdorf Professor of South and Southeast Asian Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Ivy Wilson, associate professor of English and faculty affiliate in Asian American Studies at Northwestern University, discuss The Propeller Group with Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator Naomi Beckwith.

A screening of AK-47 vs. M16, The Film begins at 5 pm in the Edlis Neeson Theater. The talk follows the film in the MCA's atrium at 6 pm.

About the Speakers

Dr. Nora A. Taylor is the Alsdorf Professor of South and Southeast Asian Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the author of Painters in Hanoi: An Ethnography of Vietnamese Art(Hawaii and Singapore Press, 2004 and 2009) and coeditor of Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art: An Anthology(Cornell SEAP Press, 2012) as well as numerous articles on modern and contemporary Vietnamese and Southeast Asian art. She was also curator of Breathing is Free: 12 756.3 Recent Work by Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba at SAIC and a recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Based in Chicago, Ivy Wilson is a writer and cultural critic whose recent work has been interested in the relationship between aesthetics and politics, contemporary art of the modern global city, and the practices of transnationalism. He teaches at Northwestern University, where he is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Art, Theory, and Practice as well as the Program in Asian American Studies. His latest piece was an essay on The Propeller Group for the 100th issue of Art Asia Pacific.
