About
Are you young, curious, and excited about art and big ideas? Come to our workshop!
It’s totally FREE, plus there are FREE SNACKS, and you get to:
- Explore the Basim Magdy exhibition and talk about imagination, hope, and the future
- Learn magical, performative tools for standing strong in the face of the unfathomable from artist Lyra Hill
- Meet other weird, creative youth from all over the city
Basim Magdy explores how we collectively weave stories about the future and how it feels when those stories fail us. He works intuitively across painting, video/film, and photography, and draws on science fiction, myth, history, propaganda, memory, and surveillance.
In this workshop, Lyra connects her performance practice with the themes of Basim’s exhibition and offers tools for confronting failure, fear, and the future. She writes, “I choose to trust in the possibility of goodness not only to protect myself against despair, but to protect my communities.”
Be ready to have deep conversations and play silly games!
About the Artist
Lyra Hill is an artist, educator, and priestess. She hosts events and rituals, and teaches in schools, museums, and community spaces. In her works, she guides people through emotional and often transformative experiences. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she grew up in the Reclaiming community, a neo‐Pagan, eco‐activist tradition with an emphasis on feminist spirituality. She brings a unique and well‐rounded approach to teaching in both artistic and spiritual communities, drawing on 12 years of experience as a ceaselessly curious and open‐minded educator.
