Celebrating contemporary performance and community, the MCA welcomes Tatsu Aoki, founder and director of Tsukasa Taiko, for Taiko Legacy and Reduction.

This stripped-down taiko performance features Koryu Nishikawa—the Kuruma Ningyo puppetmaster in his Chicago debut—with classic dance by grandmaster Shunojo Fujima and music improvisations by flutist Nicole Mitchell, classic music masters Chizuru Kineya and Takane Umeya, percussion greats Hamid Drake, Michael Zerang, and JoVIa Armstrong, with Coco Elysses and many others.

The 14th iteration of this family classic features original compositions and arrangements from ozashiki (geisha chamber music), minyo (folk music), ohayashi (classical/folk/theater music), and matsuri taiko (festival taiko music). Guest artists include:

- Grandmaster Yoshinojo Fujima and Tachibana Shijuro (Japan) performing nihon buyo (Japanese classical dance)
